Mexicolatte.

Mexicolatte is a burst of authentic mexican flavours at the heart of Alexandria, a far away neighborhood in Australia. The goal of this restaurant is to show families and friends the real mexican flavour, a true version of contemporary cuisine and a genuine representation of the culture that can be found in some of the most vibrant and modern areas in the country.

The inspiration for the visual identity of the project comes mainly from Colonia Condesa, one of the most stylish and chic neighborhoods in Mexico City, which also happens to be a very visually rich area, filled with art deco, interesting facades and typographic signs. We took some samples and visual characteristics of some of these signs and displays – low contrast, high waists, condensed structure, monoline scripts – to create the lettering piece that would serve as the wordmark. Inspiration for the brand development was also taken from other assets such as ironwork, vibrant color palettes, and specially the fact that Mexico City’s culture can be vibrant, rich and exciting without it being a cliche.

As a mexican myself, I really valued them allowing me to find a different approach for the project, and I particularly enjoyed working on this project and finding the perfect balance between a clean and stylish look & feel, yet colorful enough to represent the magic and vibrancy behind mexican culture.
